Largest Limestone Quarry in the World - KHOR KHUWAIR
Khor Khuwair Quarry, located in the United Arab Emirates, is the largest limestone quarry in the world. In partnership with sister company RAK Rock, the quarry has a production capacity of over 60 million tonnes per year of high-quality limestone. This limestone is used in a variety of industries, including construction, cement, steel, mining, glass, and chemicals.
One of the key advantages of Khor Khuwair Quarry is its 22 crushing lines, which allow for the production of over 50 different types of materials. These materials range from 0-5mm sand to 8-tonne armor rocks, and are tailored to meet the specific needs of each customer.
In addition to its impressive production capabilities, Khor Khuwair Quarry also has the unique advantage of being connected to the adjacent Saqr Port. This port is one of the largest in the Gulf region, handling over 70 million tonnes of freight per year, mostly dry bulk cargo that includes crushed rock products from Stevin Rock.
Recently, two 18m deep water berths with a combined quay length of 700m were commissioned and added to the pre-existing eight 12.2m deep berths. This allows for the loading of capesize vessels and the handling of a full range of stone products, including armor rock up to 8 tonnes, which can be shipped in specially designed 44,000 dwt bulk carriers.
The Stevin Rock private Harbor, located next to Saqr Port, is also used to supply crushed rock products to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other Gulf countries using barges up to 30,000 dwt. This enables Stevin Rock to export its high-quality rock products in the most cost-effective manner to the GCC countries as well as India, Madagascar, Ukraine, and Bangladesh, with potential for new markets in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Australia and more.
Khor Khuwair Quarry operates with the latest technologies and equipment to optimize productivity and quality. With reserves of over 2.5 billion tonnes, it is well-positioned to continue meeting the high demand for limestone in the global market.
